Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, 534 pages

"One night, Meggie's father reads aloud from Inkheart, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes from the pages of the book and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is living the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. And she must somehow learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. Only Meggie can rewrite the story that has changed her life forever." - Back Cover

I hadn't heard of this book until I heard about the movie. I haven't seen the movie yet but have a feeling it will be different since some of the things in the movie trailers are not in the book and besides, the books are always better than the movies right?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love any book whose characters love books and describe the relationship they have with them using the most beautiful metaphors. (They reminded me of The Thirteenth Tale.) I loved the idea behind this book - reading characters out of stories - and its magic. I loved how it mixed fantasy with reality. There were parts that I thought could have maybe been written a little better or with more description but I would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to pick up the sequel Inkspell.

I hadn't heard of the book either, only through the movie. I saw the Twilight movie, and the book is definitely way better. The thing with books is it put you in the minds of the characters and that is so hard to portray on screen with a look, or an action. Not sure that I want to read this one, but good to know that it might be worth it if I do decide to try it!

I hate it when a good book goes under my radar and suddenly there's a cool movie about it, and then I simply MUST force me to stay away from the theaters until I read the book first... dont you? I really want to read this book! thank you for the review. (oh by the way, I liked The Thirtheenth tale a LOT!)
