Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

309 pages

"Harry Potter has never played a sport while flying on a broomstick. He's never worn a cloak of invisibility, befriended a giant, or helped hatch a dragon. All Harry knows is a miserable life with the Dursleys, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley. Harry's room is a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs, and he hasn't had a birthday party in eleven years.

But all that is about to change when a mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger: a letter with an invitation to a wonderful place he never dreamed existed. There he finds not only friends, aerial sports, and magic around every corner, but a great destiny that's been waiting for him...if Harry can survive the encounter." -Back Cover

I haven't read this book since it first came out and I can't believe it's been so many years ago! I like to revisit favorite books at different stages of life. I think you appreciate them differently.

This book is still a favorite. I love the message of friendship and courage in this series. I like that Harry, Ron and Hermione are allowed to learn things on their own and that they are trusted to do great things at such a young age. Dumbledore puts great faith in Harry. I can't wait to re-read the other books, but I think I'll read different things in between. I got several books on my wish list for Christmas and I can't wait.
