The Pirate Coast: Thomas Jefferson, the First Marines and the Secret Mission of 1805 by Richard Zacks, 464 pages

This book started out very suspenseful and then got a little slow in the middle. Sailors from the USS Philadelphia are taken captive by the Barbary pirates and held for ransom. Thomas Jefferson sends William Eaton on a secret mission across the Sahara desert to try to attack and defeat the pirates. I learned a lot about William Eaton's zeal and patriotism and would like to read more about him.
